Peeling Paint. Peeling occurs when window sills and frames encounter consistent moisture. Eventually water penetrates the surface and when it evaporates creates pressure on the paint film causing peeling. Peeling also occurs from poorly sealed window sills that are not caulked or glazed which allows water to penetrate the surfaces.

Window Repairs. Remove paint and caulk by scraping, sanding, striping or using a heat gun. Prime any bare surfaces on windows, sills and frames. Caulk with extra attention to angles and crevices which commonly collect moisture. Replace deteriorated wood with redwood, cedar or pressure treated lumber. Prime all 6 sides before install to reduce moisture penetration.
